ABOUT THE KIWANIS CLUB OF ANN ARBOR FOUNDATION’S THRIFT SALE

The Kiwanis Club of Ann Arbor began raising money through a one time a year annual rummage thrift sale in 1927. In later years it grew into today’s Kiwanis Club of Ann Arbor Foundation’s Thrift Sale, a.k.a. The Kiwanis Thrift Sale.  Proceeds from this sale are returned to the community through the Kiwanis Club of Ann Arbor Foundation as grants, scholarships, and gifts. In the early years the Kiwanis rummage sales were held mostly at the National Guard Armory in downtown Ann Arbor several times each year until 1968. Over the years the rummage sale name changed to the Kiwanis Thrift Sale. In 1966 our Kiwanis Club of Ann Arbor Foundation bought a building located at 200 S. First St., at the corner of First and Washington Streets, for Club activities and the Kiwanis Foundation Thrift Sale. In 1990 the KiwanisFoundation Thrift Sale started weekly sale hours on each Saturday 9 to noon. Starting in 2000, we were provided temporary use of two different warehouses in south Ann Arbor to support the growing Kiwanis Thrift Sale. After 50 years downtown Ann Arbor our Kiwanis Foundation Thrift Sale needed a larger building and our Kiwanis Club of Ann Arbor Foundation purchased the current building and property on North Staebler Road in 2014.

In 2017 the Kiwanis Club of Ann Arbor Foundation’s downtown Ann Arbor building was sold, and as of January 2018 all Kiwanis Club of Ann Arbor activities and its weekly Kiwanis Club of Ann Arbor Foundation’s Thrift Sale and warehouse storage moved to its current much larger location at 100 N. Staebler Road at the corner of W. Jackson Road, Ann Arbor. The Kiwanis Foundation Thrift Sale at the new Kiwanis Center building pre COVID-19 was open weekly Saturdays 9am -1pm (except holidays) for sales to the public and for drop off donations from the public. We were closed for 27 weeks in 2020-21 due to COVID-19.  Then we re-opened.  The Kiwanis Foundation Thrift Sale is open to the public, weather permitting, on Fridays 9am to 1pm and Saturdays from 9am to 3pm.  Please note that may be closed on some holiday weekends.  Drop off donations of items from the public are accepted but ONLY on Saturdays, weather permitting.  To schedule a donation pick up, please call us to schedule.  We are located at 100 North Staebler Road, Suite C, Ann Arbor MI 48103. (One mile west of Zeeb Road and one mile east of Baker Road.) (see maps).
