About Kiwanis thrift Sale
The Kiwanis club of Ann Arbor began raising money through an annual rummage thrift sale in 1927. Sales were held mostly at the National Guard Armory several times each year until 1968. Our club bought a building in 1966 located at 200 S. First St., at the corner of First and Washington Streets, for club activities and the Kiwanis Thrift Sale. In 1990 the Kiwanis Thrift Sale started weekly hours on Saturdays 9 to noon. Starting in 2000, we were provided temporary use of two different warehouses to support the growing Kiwanis Thrift Sale. After 50 years our Kiwanis Thrift Sale needed a larger building and purchased the current building on Staebler Road in 2014. In 2017 the Kiwanis downtown Ann Arbor building was sold and all Kiwanis Club of Ann Arbor activities and its weekly Kiwanis Thrift Sale moved to its current much larger location at 100 N. Staebler Road at the corner of W. Jackson Road, Ann Arbor. Prior to COVID 19 the Kiwanis Thrift Sale expanded its days and hours and to be open Fridays and Saturdays 9 am to 1 pm except when closed on some holidays. HOWEVER, the Kiwanis Thrift Sale is temporarily closed effective November 21, 2020, through January 31, 2021, due to an abundance of caution and concern for the safety of our volunteers, members, staff, and customers during the pandemic.
The Thrift Sale is a fundraising activity of the Kiwanis Club of Ann Arbor Foundation. Proceeds support over 80 local non-profits. Ann Arbor’s great thrift sale. Everything from antiques and furniture to clothing and electronics, plus an excellent inventory of books and music. Big selections of furniture, housewares, garden tools, and sporting goods. Free parking and handicapped accessible.
The Kiwanis Thrift Sale at the Kiwanis Center is open Friday and Saturday 9:00 am -1:00 pm for sales to the public and for drop off of donations from the public, at 100 North Staebler Road, Suite C, Ann Arbor MI 48103. (One mile west of Zeeb Road and one mile east of Baker Road.) (see maps). The Kiwanis Thrift Sale Downtown has closed and its departments have moved to the new Kiwanis Center. Sales are staffed by Kiwanis members and volunteers. The Kiwanis Center is owned by the Ann Arbor Kiwanis Club Foundation, a non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation, and donations to the Thrift Sale may be tax deductible. The Thrift Sale funds a wide variety of charities and social agencies in Ann Arbor and Washtenaw County.
